Margaret Batschelet, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

Margaret Batschelet joined the Division of English, Classics, and Philosophy (as it was then known) in 1982 as a Lecturer I. She became an Assistant Professor in 1987 and helped to begin the Communication program. In 1993, she became an Associate Professor. Currently, she teaches the Communication Department's technical communication courses: Writing for New Media, Commerical Publications, and Editing, as well as various special topics courses.

Dr. Batschelet is the author of several textbooks, including Web Writing/Web Designing (Allyn & Bacon, 2000); Writing in Three Dimensions (with Linda Woodson) (Allyn and Bacon, 1996); Writing and Designing Documents (with Maxine Hairston) (HarperCollins, 1996); The Technical Writing Casebook (with Tom Trzyna) (Wadsworth, 1987); and Writing for the Technical Professions (with Tom Trzyna) (Wadsworth, 1987). Her book Early American Scientific and Technical Writing (Scarecrow, 1990) was awarded Best Bibliography in History, by the American Library Association in 1990. She has also published in numerous journals, including The Writing Instructor, PostScript, Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning, and The Journal of Technical Writing and Communication. She has presented her research at the conferences of the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Modern Language Association, the South Central Modern Language Association, the Society for Technical Communication, and the National Council of Teachers of English, among others.

Dr. Batschelet's most recent book is XHTML/CSS Basics for Web Writers (Prentice-Hall, 2006).
