Communication Departmental Scholarships

A variable number of scholarships may be awarded each year by the Communication Department. The applicant must be a Communication major who has completed a minimum of 24 credit hours and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. A letter of recommendation must be attached to the application.

San Antonio Express-News Endowed Scholarship

Award: two awards of $500 a year. Students must be Communication majors who have completed 60 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students must be enrolled full-time (i.e., at least 12 hours per semester), demonstrate recognizable merit, and attach a 500-word goal statement on how they will contribute to a profession in Communication.

Application requirements: San Antonio Express-News Endowed Scholarship application and 500-word statement on how you will contribute to the communication profession.

Yolanda M. and Robert J. Crittenden Endowed Scholarship in Communication

Award: $500 award ($250 fall and spring). Students must be Communication majors who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours. Students must be enrolled full-time (i.e., at least 12 hours per semester), demonstrate financial need through the normal financial aid application process, and must be graduates of a high school in one of the following Texas counties: Atascosa, Bexar, Dimmit, Goliad, Gonzales, Karnes, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, or Zavala.

Univision Communications, Inc. offers $1,500 to be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Communication.

The Association for Women in Communications, San Antonio Professional Chapter, Scholarship for Re-Entering Women

The San Antonio Chapter of the Association for Women in Communication offers two scholarships to women planning careers in communications. The San Antonio Area Foundation administers the scholarship program.

The scholarships are open to female undergraduate students accepted at or enrolled in a Bexar County university, college or community college. The candidate must be a high school graduate or G.E.D. certified, have had a minimum three-year lapse from graduating high school or leaving the academic world and must be planning a career in a communications-related field, such as print or broadcast journalism, advertising or public relations.

The scholarship, established in 1989, is named to honor longtime public relations professional and AWC member, Audreyjane "Ajay" Castro.
