Scholarships
Currently, UTSA Debate has two renewable scholarships (see Hathaway Debate Scholarship, below).We are in the beginning phase of a scholarship fund raising initiative. We expect to have more assistance available for the 2005-06 season. Check this location for new information. The Richard L. and Joanne P. Hathaway Debate Scholarship The Hathaway Debate Scholarship is a $1500 award. A recipient must
- Be an undergraduate enrolled for at least 12 hours per semester while receiving the scholarship
- Be an undergraduate enrolled for at least 12 semester hours while receiving the awardHave a grade Point Average of 2.3 or better (on a 4.0 scale) that must be maintained each semester while receiving the award
- Attend and participate in all team meetings and practices
- Debate in all tournaments each semester
- Turn in all research assignments in a timely manner
Hathaway Debate Scholarship application
The Skip and Judy Eno Debate Scholarship This scholarship is funded by an anonymous donor in honor of Skip and Judy Eno. The UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid will match on a student-by-student basis the awards made from the annual gifts received from the anonymous donor to the Skip and Judy Eno Debate Scholarship (certain conditions apply).
- Number and amount of the awards shall vary depending on funds available and the applicant pool in any given year. However, the awards are intended to be highly competitive.
Applicants
- May be incoming freshmen, transfer students, or current undergraduate students at UTSAMust have a minimum GPA of 2.0
- Will be evaluated on amount, quality and outcomes of previous cross-examination debate experience
Recipients must:
- be actively pursuing a degree at UTSA or its successor.
- be enrolled on a full-time basis, based on university standards in effect at the time of the awarding and throughout the award period.maintain an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale) while receiving the scholarship.
- be accepted onto the UTSA debate team and meet the following debate team requirements throughout the award period:
- Attend and participate in all debate team meetings and practices Complete all research assignments and submit by deadlines
- Debate in all assigned tournaments each semester
This scholarship and any other institutional financial aid based in any degree on debate ability and debate team participation may be reduced or cancelled during the period of the award if the recipient:
- Renders himself or herself ineligible for intercollegiate competition; Fraudulently misrepresents any information on an application, letter of intent or financial aid agreement; Engages in serious misconduct warranting substantial disciplinary penalty; or
- Voluntarily (on his or her own initiative) withdraws from the debate team at any time for personal reasons. A student-debater’s written request to contact another four-year collegiate institution regarding a possible transfer does not constitute a voluntary withdrawal.
