Dr. H. Paul LeBlanc III, Associate Professor of Communication received his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, his M.A. from Louisiana State University, and his B.A. from St. Mary's University of San Antonio.
Dr. LeBlanc has published over 20 research articles and book chapters and presented over 30 conference papers on diverse topics including health communication, family communication and communication education. He is currently conducting research on physician-patient communication, marital communication, and the communication in the classroom. His primary research question is "How do relational partners communicate inclusion?" Dr. LeBlanc has received a faculty research award and served as a faculty mentor for the Lancy Scholarship program. While at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, he served as Project Coordinator for the Illinois/Indiana Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse-Midwife and Physician Assistant Training Consortium, a two-year multi-agency planning grant sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Prior to coming to the UTSA in 2001, Dr. LeBlanc taught at Baton Rouge Community College and Louisiana State University. Currently, he teaches courses in interpersonal areas including relational and family communication at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also teaches in the communication core with a particular interest in research methods and graduate introductory statistics. He is an active supporter of graduate and undergraduate student research, and has supervised 14 student papers presented at conferences, three of which received honors. He has also supervised three student projects that were subsequently published. He has directed and reviewed both graduate and undergraduate theses.
Dr. LeBlanc recently served as the Graduate Advisor of Record for the MA Program in Communication, and is currently serving as the Chair of the Department of Communication at the UTSA. Dr. LeBlanc also participates in university governance, having served as the Vice Chair for the UTSA IRB Human Subjects Committee and as the Communication program representative on the Faculty Senate. As a doctoral student at Southern Illinois University he served as the Vice-President for Graduate School Affairs for the Graduate and Professional Student Council. SIUC was named the top student government organization by the National Association of Graduate and Profession Students during his tenure.
