The Communication Internship is designed to help students gain real-world, hands-on experience to assist in building their careers after graduation.

This internship experience helps the student better frame their current skill sets—writing, speaking, research, and digital communication skills—into a broader gamut of employable and marketable professional assets that are solicited from a variety of industries and organizations. These industries include, but are not limited to: broadcast writing & production, journalism & news media, advertising design & client management, public relations & marketing, human resources & organizational communication, health sciences, community & social services, business development, scientific & technical writing, on-air talent, graphic design, among others.

The Communication Internship is framed as an off-site classroom, hosted by a UTSA community partner & employer, that will commit to mentoring, monitoring and assisting our students in developing new skills exclusive to that partner's working environment and industry.

The Communication Internship also attempts to supplement our students' learning by giving the intern the opportunity to transfer, apply and practice skills and theories learned inside the UTSA classroom into real professional scenarios. Ideally, the intern also begins building their professional work ethic, and "network" of contacts—this is invaluable as one transitions from student to professional.

The COM 4933 internship course is offered in Fall, Spring and Summer!
