Lambda Pi Eta
Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA) and is nationally accredited by the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). The Kappa Tau Chapter at the University of Texas at San Antonio is one of over 400 active chapters of Lambda Pi Eta worldwide. Membership in the organization is by invitation only and is based on GPA. Chapter activities include participation in academic, social, and community service events.
What does LPH represent?
As stated on the LPH national web site the letters L, P, and H represent "what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics."
The Goals of Lambda Pi Eta and the Kappa Tau Chapter
The Communication Honor Society strives to:
- Recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio

- Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors
- Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication
- Establish and maintain closer relationships between the Communication faculty and students at UTSA
- Explore options for graduate education in communication studies

Communication majors meeting or exceeding the following national requirements are eligible to join the Kappa Tau Chapter at UTSA:
Achieving
- A minimum 3.25 GPA in 12 semester hours of communication studies and
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in a minimum of 60 semester credit hours of overall college coursework
An invitation for membership in Lambda Pi Eta is only extended to a select group of high-achieving students: less than ten percent of UTSA communication majors are eligible for membership.
