Visual Semiotics: Framing

Elements in composition can be disconnected, separated from each other.

Or they can be connected.

Stronger the framing of an element, more disconnected element is.

Absence of framing implies unity.

Connected elements= single unit of information,

Belong together.

Frame lines can have different thickness.

Thick lines create greater discontinuity

Can also can be shown by discontinuities of color and/or shape.
