PostScript Fonts (Type 1 Fonts)
- PostScript= programming language created by Adobe
- Describes appearance of page
- PostScript fonts are most professional-looking format
- Many print shops require them
Type 1 fonts include
- Bitmapped "screen" font
- Printer "outline" font
Bitmapped fonts
- Represented by pixels (bitmaps).
- 72 dots per inch
- "jaggies"
- Only a few sizes included with screen fonts
- ATM
Outline
- Outline of each character as mathematical formula
- "Scalable"
Postscript fonts (Type 1 fonts)
- Work best on PostScript printers
- Font management software allows nonPostScript printers to use them
- Adobe Type Manager
