I joined the Division of English, Classics, and Philosophy (as it was known then) in 1982 as a Lecturer I. I became an Assistant Professor in 1987 and helped to begin the Communication program. In 1993, I became an Associate Professor and from 1998-2000, I was the Undergraduate Advisor of Record. The Communication Department spun off on its own in 2000, and I went with it. My specialization is technical communication, particularly Web writing.
While I was at UTSA, I also worked as a freelance technical writer and editor for clients including Datapoint, CPS, and Gill Savings. For several years, I was copyeditor and a staff writer at Ocean Realm magazine and Fourth Day Publishing, both of which were based here in San Antonio (Ocean Realm was sold and discontinued in 2002). The fact that, with the exception of CPS, all of these concerns are now out of business is not my fault.
I've published and presented articles on using visual communication, collaborative writing, and technical writing. My most recent publication is XHTML/CSS for Web Writers for Prentice-Hall.
I've become more heavily involved with Web designing and writing during the last three years. I'm the Web master of the Communication site, and I'm also designer and Web master of the sites for Community Unitarian Church, Mary Grace Ketner-Storyteller, and the San Antonio Storytellers Association.
